Green dragon statue on a pedestal, wings spread, under a cloudy sky. The dragon appears fierce. Rooftops and trees in the background.

That's right! I have yet another release for September 2025—this time a fantasy short story.

Fantasy Anthology Release

Dark cloaked figure floats in misty forest on book cover. Text: "Fall Into Fantasy," "2025 Edition." Gold sparkles in the background.

The fantasy anthology is Fall into Fantasy from Cloaked Press. My contribution to this fantastic collection of fantastical tales is The Magician's Quest. Several things make the addition of this yarn exceptionally awesome. First, it's a continuation of the adventures of Isla and her racing dragon, Sable. They originally appeared in my short story titled The Overlord's Trials, available to read for free on my site. The tale was first published by Fantasia Divinity Magazine and earned a spot in their best of anthology. Another recurring character, Cornelia, also plays a fundamental role in the story. She first appeared in Scars, which you can also read for free.

And Coolest of All…

The Magician's Quest takes place in the world of Solarflame, my upcoming epic fantasy release from Cloaked Press. Here's what the novel is all about…

"SolarFlame" book cover with fiery text on dark background. Subtitle "An Epic Fantasy" by Dan Rice. Cloaked Press logo with flames.

Solarflame is Robert Jordon’s Eye of the World meets Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern. The fantastical adventure, with its themes of family, duty, and sacrifice, will appeal to older teens and adults.

For centuries, the Dalgaard Overlords have ruled their kingdom by the might of their dragons and the incredible power of their most feared weapon, the sword Solarflame. When the Overlord is assassinated, the kingdom plunges into chaos. A new generation must step into the fray to prevent the domain from falling to its enemies.

Rangthor Dalgaard ascends to Overlord after the assassination. Rangthor must overcome his grief and find the depth of character needed to commune with the gods in a mere two weeks. Failure to perform this most sacred duty will result in the kingdom plunging into darkness. Communicating with the gods means suffering the terrible pain of self-immolation, which is a trial he is unprepared to face.
