Early Reviews

Still need convincing? Here's what D. Donovan, Sr. Reviewer at Midwest Book Review wrote: “Librarians can choose Phantom Algebra for their collections confident that the rich tone of emotional connection and discovery that opens the story will support the supernatural contentions and growing horror to deliver a one-two punch of surprises and revelations.”

What author doesn't want to deliver a one-two punch of surprises and revelations?

Excerpt from Phantom Algebra

Steeling herself, she reached for the apparition. She didn’t know how the prankster pulled off the illusion but planned to find out. The air became colder the closer her fingers came to the ghostly form, until the tips burned and tingled like she submerged her digits in ice water only a few degrees above freezing.

“Ahh.” Zuri jerked her hand back and tried to rub warmth into her fingers. Gulping, she whispered words she never imagined speaking. “Are you a ghost?”

In response, the phantasm tapped the tip of the pencil against the paper.

“You want me to look at the equation?” Zuri glanced at the solution, unable to make sense of it. Pure honey combined with a bitter necrotic smell invaded her mouth with her next breath. She almost gagged. “How do I know if it’s right?”

Blurb

Zuri and her mother settle in Pinedale, North Carolina, to start over. For years, they’ve been on the run from Zuri’s father, a retired boxer and full-time gangland enforcer.

In Pinedale, Zuri finds a gym where she can train in mixed martial arts to pursue her dream of becoming a champion fighter. At Pinedale High, she discovers friends among the outcasts, academic challenges, and something unexpected…ghosts.

When Zuri encounters a tween phantom haunting the library, her life is turned upside down and inside out as she attempts to help the spirit. This incurs the wrath of devils, living and dead. Zuri will need her martial arts prowess, heart, and the aid of friends to protect everyone she loves.

Parting Shots

Smiling person in a blue cap holds Phantom Algebra book at a crowded stadium. Lumen Field signs and city skyline in background.

When I first started working on Phantom Algebra, I wondered what I was doing writing a ghost story… not only that, but a story in a shared universe. I honestly thought: What in the hell am I doing? I should stick to knocking out the fourth and final volume of The Allison Lee Chronciles, then I'll finally have a completed series under my belt.

Well, I paused working on volume four and knocked out Phantom Algebra in record time. I had a fantastic time putting the tale down in the digital ink of ones and zeroes. It's easily my best writing to date. If you enjoy reading it half as much as I enjoyed writing it, you're in for a real treat. You'll love it.
