Meet Kyt, an alien known as a rax and confident to none other than Allison's nemesis, General Bane. She quickly bonds with Allison Lee and is a prominent character in the fourth and final volume of The Allison Lee Chronicles, The Bane Dragons.

Character Interview: Kyt

Where were you born?

I was born in a treehouse on Rax. That's where my people live when we're not servicing starships, maintaining space stations, or fixing whatever gizmo has broken down that the Empire depends on for whatever—in the trees. I can barely recall the jungles of Rax. It makes me sad. Like most young rax, I was shipped off-planet to a vocational school at ten cycles. I've never been back. Sure, I've seen pictures and vids, and do the VR on occasion, but it's not the same, is it?

What is your favorite color?

You see the color of my hair? Neon pink, right? That's my favorite color. The natural color of my people's hair is white, as in bone white. So boring! My parents—I love them, I really do—wouldn't let me dye my hair. I hated it. As soon as I shipped off to vocational school, I saved up my stipend and did odd jobs for other students for a whole cycle to get a proper dye job. Chose this color from day one and have never changed it even once.

What is your dream job?

My favorite job? I don't know. I've done all kinds of jobs. I have enjoyed some more than others, but I can tell you my least favorite job. Fixing the plumbing for skaags. That is by far the smelliest, grimiest, most disgusting job I've ever done! I'd rather scour the digestive tract of The Empress' Mercy. Oh, the Empress is a biomechanical spaceship, dreadnaught class, and General Bane's flagship.

What is your favorite food?

Raxian cuisine in general. The real stuff. Not the junk from the food synthesizers. Fortunately, we rax are everywhere and in great numbers. The dragons and skaags can't operate a space station, starship, or city of much size without us, so there was only one time I was posted to a duty station without at least one restaurant run by rax. It was horrible!

How do you spend a typical Saturday night?

Nowadays…with Bane. Plotting.

About the Book

Red dragon silhouette over a full moon on a starry blue background. Text: "The Bane of Dragons" by Dan Rice, "The Allison Lee Chronicles."

Monstrous forces from across the multiverse have set their eyes upon Earth to create a beachhead in the universe humanity calls home. The problem with that? Humans will be enslaved…and used as food stock for skaags, ravenous shapeshifting super soldiers.

Allison, a teenage alien human hybrid, is humanity’s only hope. She must travel the slipstream, the super highway through the multiverse, to bring the conflict to the enemy’s turf. With a crack squad of miscreants as allies, she does just that, but the plan goes awry.

They end up as the prisoners of angry terrestrial octopi. Their attempts at negotiation only see them handed over to General Bane, the skaag supreme military commander feared throughout the multiverse. Allison discovers that to save everyone she loves, she must unravel the magic binding General Bane and his kind to their overlords. To accomplish that, she must face her greatest fear, herself.
