Today on the blog, it's book review time. The Winter Heir by J.A. Nielsen is a YA fantasy and the second installment in the YA fantasy series the Fractured Kingdoms. I reviewed the first book in this YA fantasy series a while ago.
Book Review: The Winter Heir

Spence and Dewy return in the second installment of the Fractured Kingdoms. Their paths diverge as Spence returns to the human kingdom of Telridge. At the same time, Dewy, a fairy princess of summer, is forced to join the winter fairies to fulfill a bargain. What follows are journeys of self-discovery for both of them as they independently search to uncover the identity of the heir of winter.
If you enjoyed Nielsen's debut YA fantasy, The Claiming, you'll find The Winter Heir a worthy read. The story is slightly darker than its predecessor without being grim. The mystery of the heir's identity propels the plot forward, and a careful reader will identify the heir before the character is revealed as such. This made for a satisfying conclusion to the tale. The ending appears to set up a third novel where we will finally discover if Spence and Dewy can overcome their circumstances to find lasting happiness.
I look forward to reading the conclusion of their story.
