Today on the blog, I have another book review of a tale from an indie author. I don't take on many reviews and had a long dry spell until recenly. So far this year, I've chosen an eclectic mix of indies to check out. Super Guardian by Arnav Kapoor definitely fits this mold—it's a graphic novel written by a teen.
Book Review: Super Guardian

Super Guardian is in many ways a typical superhero story. A dude is exposed to a gnarly alien substance that grants him superhuman powers. Pretty standard. This tale, however, departs from the typical stuff of the superhero genre. Our hero doesn't start off as all that heroic—he's confused and dangerous, and sometimes seems crazy after being exposed to the extraterrestrial artifact. Ultimately, he finds redemption in saving numerous people.
It's the crazy and confused state of our hero that sets this story apart. COVID is referenced in the yarn, and I believe much of this work was written during the pandemic. Kapoor's tale captures that sense of what the hell is going on and what the in world will happen next that many worldwide felt at that time.
I also enjoyed some of the art quite a bit. Below is one of my favorite frames: the dangerous orb of alien energy.

If you enjoy comics/graphic novels and want to support a budding artist, this is an interesting read that really does capture the anxiety I felt during the pandemic. Buy link--> https://graphicnovelist.gumroad.com/l/ekkak
