Blurred skyscrapers and light streaks over a city road under a cloudy sky, creating a fast, futuristic mood

Does super speed equal super fun? Does a superpower solve any of your problems? Orrrrr…just create new Gordian knots to untie? Arnov Kapoor wrestles with these questions and more in his latest graphic novel, Speedster.

I also reviewed Kapoor's first book Super Guardian. Here is his website.

Book Review: Speedster

Comic-style city skyline with a green speedster blasting past; text reads GET READY FOR A VERY STORY-DRIVEN... FAST RIDE! SPEEDSTER BY ARNAV

Supernatural energy is released again, creating another superhuman. This time, a speedster reminiscent of the Flash or A-Train from The Boys. Kapoor's human bullet, a bloke named John, has more in common with A-Train than the Flash, I think. You see, for John, superpowers create far more problems than they solve.

Like the protagonist in Kapoor's Super Guardian, John initially doesn't know what the hell is going on as he discovers he has superpowers. He also quickly learns that your actions catch up with you, no matter how fast you run.

Kapoor's artwork is quite interesting in this one. I think it really captures the confusion, trauma, and inability to escape his circumstances that John experiences.

Overall, this is a quick read with arresting art that explores the dark side of being superhuman.
