Today on the blog, I have a review of Kai Lung II Flips Open His Laptop, a short anthology of speculative fiction by Canadian author Ahmed A. Khan. For the curious, here is some background information on the original Kai Lung, a fictional storyteller.

As always, when I receive a review request, I had no

idea what to expect when reading Kai Lung II Flips Open His Laptop. Lately, I have found myself too busy to take many review requests, and there's always a bit of trepidation when accepting one. What if the story is a real stinker? However, this year I've had a great time reading and reviewing anthologies, so I figured, what the heck, I'll give these a go.

Mr. Khan relays a handful of brief, mostly allegorical stories with speculative twists. As with any anthology, I enjoyed some more than others, but all are true delicacies, especially if you appreciate subtle wry humor. My favorite yarn of the bunch is Harry, Harry Quite Contrary, about a lad with no intention of doing what he's told or following the fundamental laws of physics. The tale is extremely short—flash fiction—but very satisfying. This is true of all the stories in this collection. Highly recommended.
